Animal Control Board: One (1) vacancy for a non-animal owner with a term expiring on September 13, 2025.
The Animal Control Board is comprised of five members who must be New Smyrna Beach residents. They recommend rules and regulations pertaining to operation of animal control facilities, standards, and procedures for enforcement and regulation to the City Commission. Qualifications are one (1) licensed veterinarian, one (1) SEVHS Representative, two (2) animal owners, one (1) non-animal owner. Must be a New Smyrna Beach resident. The Board Appointments are for two-year terms.
Airport Advisory Board: One (1) vacancy for an Alternate Member, with a term expiring on September 9, 2027
The purpose of the Airport Advisory Board is to advise the City Commission and City Manager on policy matters relating to the development, use and operation of the airport facility. Qualifications are three (3) members must possess experience directly related or involving aviation, three (3) members must be active in the business community and one (1) member must possess proven experience in some area of business management. All members must be New Smyrna Beach residents.
Building Trades Board: Two alternate member unfilled vacancies, with terms expiring on January 1, 2025 and three regular member seats, with terms expiring January 1, 2027
The Building Trades Board is composed of seven members with two alternate members. Building Trades Board members must be residents of Volusia County. Regular board members must have knowledge and experience in technical codes; such as design professionals, contractors or building industry representatives. The alternate board members require that one must be an at large member of the building industry and one must be an at large member of the general public. No member may serve more than two consecutive terms unless waived by the City Commission. The board makes determinations regarding applications for certificates of registration and recommends amendments to the various codes and regulatory standards that bear upon the construction industry and building trades in general. There are two (2) vacancies for Alternate Member Seats and three (3) seats up for reappointment consideration.
Code Compliance Board: One (1) unfilled vacancy, preferably an architect or engineer, with a term expiring on March 3, 2027
The Code Compliance Board is composed of seven members. Members must be residents of the City of New Smyrna Beach. Appointments shall be made based on experience or interest in the fields of zoning, building control and other codes enumerated herein. Members shall consist of, whenever possible, an architect, businessman, engineer, general contractor, a sub-contractor and a realtor. All members must be New Smyrna Beach residents.
Economic Development Task Force: One (1) unfilled vacancy, with a term expiring on September 1, 2025
The EDTF is composed of five members who must be New Smyrna Beach residents. They will assist the City's economic development on an assignment basis. They will review and advise staff and the City Commission on specific, defined economic development initiatives or challenges, and perform such other duties and assignments as requested by the City Manager. The Board Appointments are for three years.
Planning and Zoning Board: One (1) vacancy, for a Volusia County School Board Member, with a term expiring October 31, 2027.
The Board is composed of seven members who must be New Smyrna Beach residents. The members review site plans and subdivision plats; makes recommendations to the City Commission on Comprehensive Plan Amendments, Land Development Regulation amendments, annexations, street vacations and any other matters referred to them by the City Commission. The Board Appointments are for three years.
Turnbull Creek Land Preservation Committee: One (1) unfilled vacancy, with a term expiring TBD
The TCC review any information related to land preservation along Turnbull Creek prior to City Commission approval. Qualifications are wherever possible, members shall demonstrate interest in environmental issues, historic preservation, wildlife, biology, botany or water quality.
