Motorists traveling South Riverside Drive can expect a short detour to Magnolia Street between 4th Street and 6th Street with work now underway to construct a temporary bridge and eventual replacement for the 5th Street bridge over Yacht Club Cut.
Scheduled for completion by September 2024, the project will replace the current single span 40 ft. long bridge with a four span 160 ft. long design, reducing long-term maintenance costs by eliminating the need for retaining walls at the abutments and improving water quality by increasing flow and decreasing siltation in the channel. The bridge itself will also include paved shoulders, guardrails, and drainage improvements to help minimize erosion.
