New Smyrna Beach library plans adult programs in September

The New Smyrna Beach Regional Library, 1001 S. Dixie Freeway, offers a variety of programs to help adults learn new skills and make new friends.

The library is open from 12 to 5 p.m. Sunday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. 

Stop by our clinic with your plants, flowers, vegetables, or any questions you have about your garden or lawn at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 5. A no-cost way to learn about Florida Friendly Landscaping. Let the Masters help! 

Introduction to computers for adults will be offered on Wednesday, Sept. 6 at 10 a.m.  Adults will learn the parts of a computer, as well as simple computer operations. Registration is required, space is limited. To reserve a spot, call 386-424-2910, option 3.

Library volunteer Carolyn Carlisle will offer genealogy assistance from 1 to 3 p.m. Mondays, 11, 18, 25 in September. She will explain how to use the library’s free databases, which include Ancestry Library Edition, Heritage Quest, America’s Historical Newspapers and Fold 3. Find her in the computer lab. 

Upcycle unused jeans to create a rustic denim flower display at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12. All craft skill levels welcome. All supplies are provided. Space is reserved for those who register. For more information, call 386-424-2910, option 3.

Knit and Crochet Club will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14.  All are welcome to come and learn how to knit and crochet. All levels of experience are welcome. Yarn and needles are provided.  

Did you know that coloring can relieve stress, improve motor skills, improve brain function, and create a meditative state? Adults are welcome to color themselves calm at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14 for National Coloring Day. All supplies are provided, but feel free to bring your own project. The Select & Reflect Book Club meets for respectful discussion of Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19. Newcomers are welcome to participate in this no-pressure book club! 

Celebrate International Talk Like a Pirate Day 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19 for toe-tapping tunes with the Sandy Back Porch band, the most fun-loving pirate band around!  

Join Volusia County Emergency Management’s Jill Hemmerlein at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20 and learn how to plan, prepare, respond, recover, and mitigate for any and all hazards.

Create unique jewelry and share tips at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 21. Participants should bring their own materials and tools. Jewelry and supplies cannot be sold, but swapping and sharing are encouraged. 

Interested in growing your own vegetables? Join New Smyrna Beach Garden Club’s Lola Duckworth 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21 for helpful tips on setting up a terrific fall vegetable garden.

Adults can learn about drone technology and gain hands-on experience at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28. Learn about the library’s Mobile Technology Lab and all that it has to offer. Space is reserved for those who register. For more information, call 386-424-2910, option 3.

Celebrate Classical Music Month at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30 with a cinema and classical music performance by the Daytona Beach Concert Band, the only community band in Volusia County.
