With the application window to paint a new round of decorative shark statues now closed, the Youth Council Task Force is still seeking artists to paint 15 fire hydrants located throughout the city.

Applicants must be a Volusia County resident and at least 16 years old. Artists selected by the Council will receive a $30 gift card to purchase supplies.

Made up of five New Smyrna Beach High School students, the Youth Council Task Force was established to evaluate problems facing youth and review them regularly with the City Commission. Their next meeting will be Thursday, April 6, at 4 p.m. in the James W. Hathaway Commission Chambers at 214 Sams Ave.
