The hot topic of prolonged train crossing blockages along U.S. 1 in New Smyrna Beach was addressed by Interim Chief of Police Eric Feldman during yesterday's March 21 town hall with Vice Mayor & Zone 4 Commissioner Randy Hartman.

"It is a major issue for the city. It's not fair," said Feldman. "In the past, there have been some improvements. That's why 10th Street was widened. That's why we have the ramp over on [State Road] 44. Those are all things commissioned through the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA). So we are restarting those talks now to say, 'Okay, what's next?' What do we need to do now?"

Motorists are encouraged to report prolonged train crossing blockages to the FRA Public Blocked Crossing Incident Reporter at https://www.fra.dot.gov/blockedcrossings/
