As of January 1, 2024 the State of Florida and City of New Smyrna Beach will be enforcing the 8th Edition 2023 Florida Building Code and the 2020 National Electric Code. All permit applications submitted on or after Jan. 1, 2024 shall be compliant with the 8th Edition Florida Building Code and 2020 National Electric Code. The primary objective of the City of New Smyrna Beach Building & Inspection Department is to protect the public's life, heath, safety, and welfare as it relates to construction. We provide the highest level of customer service by a fully-trained team dedicated to serving the public. This is accomplished through the implementation of building, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical codes along with various state codes and standards.
The Building & Inspections Department is responsible for:

Please Note: We are currently using the 2020 Florida Building Codes 7th Edition and the 2017 National Electric Code.
All permits must be submitted through Energov Citizen Self Service (CSS) at permits.cityofnsb.com
When you open the link, you will need to register and setup an account prior to entering any permits. Please submit this permit through the CSS so that it may be processed. You will be able to submit payment and track the status of the permit through CSS. When creating the permit, please add the homeowner and any subcontractors applicable to the permit.
Effective July 1, 2022, Volusia County began performing all permitting, application review, code enforcement, and public hearings for properties within unincorporated Volusia County as part of the Interlocal Service Boundary Agreement.
