Michael Kolody was elected as Zone 1 Commissioner in the Nov. 6, 2018 General Election. He was sworn into office on Nov. 13. This is his second experience with politics, and he looks forward to the many opportunities he will have to help the citizens of New Smyrna Beach.
Michael has championed many local initiatives related to the environment and planning and zoning. He has also served as a member of the Planning and Zoning Board.
Born and raised in New Jersey, Michael and his wife Mary Lou began visiting New Smyrna Beach in 1984. They purchased their home as a second home in 1996 and became permanent New Smyrna Beach residents in 2004. His career has included experience as the Director of Public Works for the Borough of Plainfield, New Jersey and proprietor of Kolody Engineering & Surveying. He also holds a Civil Engineering Bachelor’s Degree as well as a Professional Planner License.
Michael’s hobbies include golfing, boating on the Intercoastal and relaxing with his wife at their Georgia Mountain cabin. Michael and his wife, Mary Lou, are residents of the City’s North Causeway neighborhood.
