Founding

The Airport Advisory Board was founded under Resolution No. 32-77, which states that the City of New Smyrna Beach owns and operates a Municipal Airport and it is appropriate that an advisory board be created consisting of individuals from the community to advise the City Commission and City Manager on policy matters relating to the development, use, and operation of the airport facility.

Composition

The Airport Advisory Board consists of five members and one alternate, of whom:

  • at least three members must possess experience directly related to or involving aviation; and
  • one member must possess proven experience in some area of business management; and
  • at least three members must be active in the business community; and
  • all members must be residents of the City of New Smyrna Beach

The members of the Airport Advisory board shall be appointed for a term of three years.  The terms shall be staggered.  No individual shall serve more than two consecutive terms unless approved by the City Commission.  All members shall serve without compensation.  Any appointment made to replace a member who does not complete his term for any reason shall be for the unexpired term, said replacements to be made by the City Commission.  Should a member move his place of residence outside the corporate limits of the City of New Smyrna Beach, he shall automatically be disqualified from further service on the Airport Advisory Board.  All members of the Board shall serve at the pleasure of the City Commission.

Duties

It shall be the duty and responsibility of the Airport Advisory Board to advise and consult with the City Commission and City Manager on matters of policy concerning and relating to the development, use, and operation of the airport.

Meetings

The Airport Advisory Board shall hold at least one meeting every three months and may hold such additional meetings as may be required by the work of the Board.  The Board may be called into special session by the Chairman, by a majority of the members of the Board, or by the City Manager.
